Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Bali's International Airport of  Ngurah Rai saw 3,578 departures of domestic flights in July  or a increase of 14.13 percent from June, this year.

The number of  domestic passengers rose 33.94 percent to 511,350 in July from 381,772 passengers in June, head of the Bali office of the central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Adi Nugroho said here on Sunday.

Adi said baggage increase 35.47 percent in volume from 4,084 tons in June to 5,535 tons in July.

The largest number of departures for domestic flights from Bali are to Jakarta's Soekarno Hatta airport  with 1,226 flights in July  and passengers totaling 224,492, followed by flights to Surabaya reaching 482 flights with 79,719 passengers and to Lombok Praya 271 flights with 26,345 passengers  and to Yogyakarta 259 flights  with 38,729 passengers.  
    
Adi Nugroho said other frequent flights were to Labuan Bajo  with  194 departures and 15,107 passengers ,  Makassar  with 190 departures and 30,372 passengers, Bandung 186 departures  with 31,729 passengers and Jakarta's Halim Perdana Kusuma 64 departures  with 6,735 passengers, Semarang 66 departures with 6,439 passengers  and  Bima  66 departures with 2,402 passengers.

The strong growth recorded both in number of passengers, flight frequency and volume of baggage  was attributable to Idul Fitri celebration.

Departures from Ngurah Rai of international flights with wide bodied aircraft   rose 11.83 percent  to 2,590 in July  from 2,316 departures in June.

The number of international passengers leaving Ngurah Rai totaled 465,219 in July, 2016 or an increase of 12.33 percent from 414,137  in June. Most of them are holiday makers. (WDY)
