Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology expects eight million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to go online towards the digital economic era.
"We are encouraging the MSMEs to go online," the Director of e-Business at the ministry, Azhar Hasyim, said here on Monday.
He said Indonesia is ready to welcome the digital economic era as the national vision is to be the biggest economy in the Southeast Asian region.
According to him, the development of digital MSMEs, which are the national economic backbone, is substantial as they contribute 58 percent of the gross domestic production.
In order to reach the expectation, the government provides one million free domains. In 2016, the government expects 350 thousand domains for MSMEs e-commerce.
Azhar said by 2020 the e-commerce is expected to reach US$130 billion.
The government is also creating one million online farmers and fishermen, and one thousand techno-preneurs by 2019.
In addition, the government is developing integrated broadband villages.
In order to support the infrastructure, the ministry has launched Palapa Ring project to link all districts and city across Indonesia by 2019 within internet broadband connection. (WDY)
