Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The appointment of Maha Abu-Shusheh as Indonesian honorary consul to Palestine proves that Indonesia's support for Palestine was stronger than ever, member of presidential special staff for communication, Johan Budi, has said.
"I think this is remarkable progress. Indonesia's support for Palestine is now even stronger," he said here on Monday.
The inauguration of Indonesian honorary consul to Palestine is part of Indonesia's commitment to opposing Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, he said.
Indonesia inaugurated the honorary consul in Amman, Jordan, on Sunday although Israeli authorities banned Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi from entering Ramallah, Palestine.
"Of course, the foreign minister took the president's mission there and this reflects the Indonesian government's commitment to supporting Palestinian independence," Johan said.
Minister Retno Marsudi installed Maha Abu-Shusheh as Indonesian honorary consul to Palestine at the Indonesian embassy in Amman in the presence of Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki, and ambassadors of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.
The inauguration was held at the Indonesian embassy in Amman after Israel refused to issue an over flight permit to the Indonesian foreign minister and her entourage en route to Ramallah. (WDY)
