Padang, W.Sumatra (Antara Bali) - The administration of Padang city, West Sumatra province, will host the Indonesia Indian Ocean Local Government Forum (Indonesia-IOLGF) on September 8 and 9, Mayor Mahyeldi Ansharullah said on Monday.
"Seventy provincial administration heads from 13 provinces located along the Indian Ocean will participate in the forum," he added.
The event is an initiative of the Padang administration and is aimed at establishing the forum as a warm-up before the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Summit, to be held from October 20 to 23.
"The seminar, which is also the workshop, will be officially opened by the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs, with speakers hailing from the ministry and institutions, which are in accordance with the IORA sectors," he said.
In addition, this meeting will be attended by speakers from Perth (Australia) and Dubai (UAE), who will discuss preparations for the formation of the Perth-Padang-Dubai path.
"They have also confirmed their presence," Ansharullah said.
The Indian Ocean Rim is a region comprised of states, whose shores are washed by the waters of the Indian Ocean.
The region is home to about two billion people, with much cultural diversity and richness in languages, religions, traditions, arts and cuisines.
The countries of the Indian Ocean Rim can also be divided into a number of sub-regions, such as Australasia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, West Asia and Eastern & Southern Africa), each with their own regional groupings, such as ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation), GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) and SADC (Southern African Development Community).
Today, IORA is a dynamic organization of 20 Member States and six Dialogue Partners, with an ever-growing momentum for mutually beneficial regional cooperation. (WDY)
