Semarang, C Java (Antara Bali) - Indonesia's men's singles player Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka of the Djarum Kudus Badminton Club advanced to the quarterfinals of Yonex Sunrise Vietnam GP Open after beating his compatriot, Fikri Ihsandi Hadmadi, in the third round on Thursday.

In the quarterfinals on Friday, Hayom who is ranked first in the tournament will meet with eighth-seeded Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif of Malaysia.

Yoppy Rosimin, the chief of the badminton club, stated on Thursday he was convinced Hayom will be able to beat the Malaysian shuttler to move to the semifinals.

"Hayom is still better than him (Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif) and will be able to advance to the semifinals," Yoppy said.  

Hayom who is seeded 25th in the world beat Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif who is ranked 61st in Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 (21-10,8-21,22-20).

In the third round of the Vietnam Open which offers a total prize of US$50 thousand, Hayom outclassed Fikri 21-12, 21-19, while Latif beat India's Ajay Jayaram 22-20,21-16.  

In the men's singles event, Indonesia still has a chance to secure another place in the quarterfinals as ninth-seeded Andre Kurniawan Tedjono will face his junior compatriot Riyanto Subagja in the third round. (WDY)
