Delft, The Netherlands (Antara Bali) - World economic experts will discuss a sharia economic system at an international conference themed "The Relevance of Islamic Economics in the Turbulence of Global Economy", organized by the Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association, on February 9 in Hannover, Germany.
Chairman of the conference's steering committee Eko Ruddy Cahyadi said in a statement received by ANTARA here Thursday the event will feature practitioners and experts in economy who have international reputations.
He explained the conference will consist of two plenary sessions, the first describing sharia economics with three speakers Prof. Dr. Volker Nienhaus (professor at the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany) with a topic of Islamic Economics and Financial Sector Reforms , Jamal D Harwood (Lecturer, MBA Program at University of Wales, UK) with a topic of Demand for Islamic Monetary System: Learning from Global Economic Crisis, and Andreas de Vries (Internationally experienced management advisor in the oil & gas industry, the Netherlands) to speak about Sharia Economics on Energy and Natural Resources Management.
At at the second session of the conference, three speakers will discuss Principles and Ethics of Sharia Economics and Its Importance for Indonesia, Technology Development in Sharia-based Economic System, and Sharia Economics on Public Policies and Macro Economy.
The speakers are Prof. Sofjan S. Siregar (Professor of Islamic Law, President of Islamic University of Europe, The Netherlands), Hadi Susanto, Ph.D. (Assistant Professor of Mathematics, University of Nottingham, United Kingdom) and Dwi Condro Triono, Pd.D (assistant Professor of Islamic Economy, Islamic University of Sunan Kalijaga, Indonesia), Eko said.
Eko who is taking up doctoral study at University of Leibniz, Hannover, Germany explained currently the world is looking at Islam as a way out of overcoming the economic crisis of capitalism, because when conventional banks were hit by the crisis, Islamic banks are able to survive. (*/DWA/T007)
