Nusa Dua (Antara Bali) - The ASEAN stance is urged to be bolder and firmer in facing the domination of economic capitalism in the economy which benefits only small groups.
"We are committed and called on ASEAN member countries to uphold the sovereignty of its people and political attitudes in the face of the domination of capitalism monopoly," said NGOs signing a Joint Declaration on "Building Sovereign Regionalism" spokesman Riza Damanik, here Saturday.
Riza said that the declaration which was signed by around 40 NGOs rejects all forms of exploitation both in the social, economic, political, and cultural, including free trade sectors.
NGOs also rejected regionalism that is not based on the people's sovereignty while single market integration is unconstitutional, as it has been sued by several parties in the process of judicial review of Law No. 38/2008 on the Ratification of the ASEAN Charter.
"We uphold the rule of democracy and political unity, for the sake of upholding the people's economy, from and for the people," he said.
He also explained that various mining corporations of the United States, Europe, Thailand and other countries have been scraping Indonesia's natural wealth, even in the oil and gas on the sea bed.
There are 42 identified Indonesian islands and will be under threat of disaster from mining activities until October 2011, he said.
In the fishery sector, until April 2011 40 of 79 are imported fishery products, and 40 fishery products are found in Indonesia.(**)
