Pekanbaru (Antara Bali) - A platoon of Mobile Brigade (Brimob) police officers is hunting a gang of armed robbers who shot a Brimob officer in Kampur district, Riau province, on Saturday.

Police personnel were combing oil palm plantations, believed to be the gang's hideout, chief of the Kampar district police, Adj. Snr Comr Tri Santoso, said.

He refused, however, to elaborate on how far the police officers had chased the gang members. "I am still in the field and cannot tell about any developments now. Police personnel are still combing the area," he said.

The armed gang shot a Brimob officer of the Riau provincial police at Pantai Raja village in Kampar district, Riau province, on Saturday.

The Brimob officer, identified as Ardianto, was shot in his foot. He was later taken to Awal Bros hospital in Pekanbaru for medical treatment.(IGT)
