Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Social Affairs Minister Salim Segaf Al Jufri opened an international conference on issues related to ASEAN social welfare at Jakarta Conversion Center here on Thursday.
On the occasion the minister also opened the 4th National Social Solidarity Expo (KSN Expo)which was also attended by Fijian Social Affairs Minister Jiko Luveni.
To last from October 27-29, 2011, the international conference, themed Strengthening Policy and Cooperation Among Social Policy Makers, was initiated by Social Affairs Ministry in the role of Indonesia as ASEAN Chairman 2011.
The objective of the conference is to strengthen the cooperation social policy makers in the field of social welfare.
Besides ASEAN countries, a number of friendly countries among others the United States, Canada, Britain, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Turkey, Kuwait, and Fiji also attended the conference.
Around 200 resource persons including participants from ASEAN countries, and experts from friendly countries were also present at the conference.
The conference is an informal meeting that will produce various inputs such as issues related to the empowerment of disability, elderly, and migrant workers.
Those issues will be brought to ASEAN Summit in Bali in November this year.
Meanwhile, the KSN Expo will have 419 stands for the government, non-government organizations, business world, and independent small and medium enterprises.
The expo will last from October 27-30, 2011.(*)
