Birth of Bali's Bengali Tiger Cubs Contribution to World

Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The birth of four Bengali tiger cubs at the Bali Marine and Safari Park (BSMP) does not only increase the park's collection of the rare species but also contribute a lot to the world, BSMP manager Freddy Utama said.

"This is an achievement because the birth of the four Bengali tiger cubs helps increase the population of this animal species which is now on the brink of extinction," he said here on Tuesday.

The four tiger cubs, which consist of two males and two females, were born at the BSMP park on August 23, 2009 by a couple of Bengali tigers Mally (female aged 7) and Kevin (male aged 8).

"The four cubs are named after Laksmi, Asoka, Alde and Nao. As a national tourist object and an ex-site of a nature conservation, the BSMP continues to breed national and world rare animal species," Freddy Utama said.

He said that Bengali tigers were usually found in India, Nepal and Bangladesh. Because of a threat to its population, the Indonesian government provide protection for this animal. (*)
