Rio de Janeiro (Antara Bali) - National weightlifter Eko Yuli Irawan won the second silver medal for the Indonesian contingent in the men's 62 kilogram (kg) category in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Monday evening local time.
Competing in Pavilion 2 of the Riocentro sports complex, Eko lifted a total of 312 kg in his two competition lifts: 142 kg in snatch and 170 kg in clean and jerk.
Eko tried his luck to lift 146 kg in the second and the third attempts, but he failed.
Colombian weightlifter Figueroa Mosquera became the strongest opponent for Eko, who was a bronze medalist in the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Mosquera secured a gold medal for Colombia by lifting a total weight of 318 kg, while Kazakhstan's weightlifter Farkhad Kharky took the bronze medal in the second runner-up place.
Another Indonesian weightlifter Muhammad Hasbi also competed in the 62 kg category but failed to finish among the top three as he only managed to lift a total of 290 kg.
Indonesia has, so far, won two silver medals in Rio, with the first being won by Indonesian female weightlifter Sri Wahyuni in the 48 kg category.
Indonesia still has an opportunity to bag more medals in weightlifting, with its remaining lifters who would be competing in the 69 kg and 77 kg categories.(WDY)
