Palembang (Antara Bali) - Indonesian weightlifter Eko Yuli Irawan won a gold medal at the weightlifting event in the 62-kilogram category at the Third Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) here on Wednesday.
Eko Yuli, from the Lampung province, lifted 140 kilograms in the snatch event and 159 kilograms in the clean and jerk event, taking him to a total of 299 kilograms.
The bronze medalist in the 56-kilogram category at the 2008 Olympiad in Beijing and the 62-kilogram category at the 2012 Olympiad in London had outclassed Egyptian weightlifter Ahmed Mohamed Saad.
In the first and second clean and jerk events, Eko Yuli failed to lift 165 kilograms, but he managed to do so in the final event.
Ahmed Mohamed, who appeared to be the Indonesian weightlifter's strongest opponent at the event, successfully lifted 159 kilograms in the first clean and jerk event, but he failed to lift 169 kilograms in the final event.
The Egyptian weightlifter secured a silver medal with a total of 289 kilograms. Azerbaijan weightlifter Sulemanov Zulfugar, who lifted a total of 278 kilograms, with 123 kilograms in the snatch event and 155 kilograms in the clean and jerk event, received a bronze medal.
By Wednesday, Indonesia had grabbed four gold medals, one silver medal, and one bronze medal at the weightlifting event. (*/DWA)
