Seoul (Antara Bali) - South Korea President Park Geun-hye said her
countrys relations with Indonesia had entered a new stage, which is a
better one.
"Indonesia is South Koreas main trading partner and investment
destination and also main partner at ASEAN, which especially this year
enters the 10th anniversary after the two countries built a strategic
partnership," she said at a joint press conference with President Joko
Widodo at Cheong Wa Dae Palace after a meeting Monday.
The new stage was marked by a number of economic cooperation
agreements and efforts to support each other in the foreign political
and world security affairs, President Park said.
The number of economic cooperation agreements are aimed at
extending the Free Trade Agreement to meet the Korea-ASEAN FTA
requirements to create business and investment friendly environment, she
said.
"The two countries agreed to deepen their cooperation especially in
the fields of creative industry, maritime and environment. Today,
various memorandums of understanding have been signed to create synergy
in the cooperation," she said.
President Park expressed appreciation for Indonesias move to ask
North Korea to meet the United Nations resolutions regarding the use of
nuclear weapons.
"I appreciate the Indonesian governments official statement to
condemn North Koreas acts such as nuclear tests, launching of ballistic
missiles and also test launching of missiles from a submarine," she
said.
That the political relations between Indonesia and South Korea are
improving are reflected through the cooperation for the development of
KFX/IFX fighter jets, based on mutual confidence, she said.
"The two countries leaders have agreed to jointly overcome and
prevent terrorism and also radicalism threatening the international
community's security," she said when explaining the cooperation between
the two countries on counter-terrorism.
President Joko Widodo had met with his South Korean counterpart to
discuss efforts to improve the bilateral relations between the two
countries.
President Joko Widodo is on a state visit to South Korea from May
15-18. He has also held several meetings with South Korean businessmen.
He is also scheduled to visit Sochi, Russia, to attend the ASEAN-Russia Summit on May 19-20.(WDY)
