Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The number of foreign  tourists visiting Bali was recorded at 1,090,294  in the first quarter of 2016, or 15.25 percent higher than recorded in the same period last year.

"The government policy of visa free travel for tourists from more countries including China has resulted in growing number of visitors to Bali. Many young people from China visit Bali," tourism observer  Made Widiantara Putra  said here on Friday.

Security condition or suicide bombings in other countries turned foreign tourists to Bali where the condition is more conducive, Made said.

He said increase was recorded in the number of visitors from China, Japan  and Malaysia as well as from Europe.

In the first three months of this year , the largest number of visitors came from China  reaching 247,907 , up 29 percent from  192,162  visitors in the same period in 2015.

The second largest number came from  Australia totaling 241,458 , followed by those from Japan reaching 60,610 visitors. (WDY)
