Bali's Exports Of Tuna Fish Up 19.7 Percent

Denpasar, Bali (Antara Bali) -  Bali exported US$38.75 million worth of fresh and frozen tuna fish  in the first half of 2015  or an increase of 19.71 percent  on-year.

The increase in the export earning was thanks to tuna price hike as the export volume fell sharply in the period, the provincial trade and industry office said.

Exports fell 24 percent in volume   from 8,962.4 tons in the first six months of 2014 to 6,811.9 tons in the first half of 2015, head of the foreign trade division at the trade and industry office Made Suastika said here on Friday.

Made said shipment decline din volume but earning rose with the price hike of the commodity in international market.

Tuna fish is the main export earner among six marine and fishery commodities  from Bali that entered international markets, he said.

Made Suastika said other marine and fishery trade commodities  from Bali include live decorative fishes, skip-jack, crabs  and lobsters.

In the first half of the year, Bali earned US$62.67 million from the exports of mariner and fisheries products, up 32.13 percent on-year .

The earning contributed 26.13 percent to the province's export value of US$239.83 million in the period.

Head of the provincial office of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Panasunan Siregar said fish and shrimp are one of five main export commodities of Bali . Other main commodities are non knitted wear , jewelry , wooden products and furniture  and house lamps .

Fish and shrimps are exported mainly to Japan, the United States and Singapore, Australia , Hong Kong, France  and other European countries. (WDY)
