Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesia and China have agreed to establish cooperation in the educational, social and cultural fields as part of efforts to enhance bilateral relations.
"Bilateral relations between Indonesia and China in the political, economic, social and cultural fields have grown rapidly," Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani said here on Wednesday.
Maharani made the remarks after leading the 1st High Level People-to-People Exchange Mechanism between Indonesia and China at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture here.
She expressed the hope that through the meeting China will extend assistance to increase the capacity of research and technology through investment, technological transfer, scholarships, training and joint product development.
"More importantly, it will encourage the implementation of aerospace cooperation agreed upon during the Indonesian Presidents visit in China in March 2015," she said.
Both countries also have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the recognition of academic degrees and the qualification of higher education, she said.
Scientist exchange and joint research are also part of cooperation between the two nations, she said.
She further said Indonesia warmly welcomes Chinas plan to set up a cultural foundation in Indonesia. Likewise, the Chinese government should support the establishment of Indonesian cultural foundation in China.
"Both countries need to strengthen cultural cooperation. The cultural foundations play a pivotal role in promoting the two countries culture and improving mutual understanding between the two countries," she said. (WDY)
