President Yudhoyono's entourage included First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Darwin Z Saleh, Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hassan, Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik, Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam, presidential spokesman Julian A Pasha, and Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Teuku Faizasyah replacing Dino Patti Djalal.

Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik said earlier that the National Student Art Creation Contest, organized annually in the run up to Independence Day (August 17), was a follow up of President Yudhoyono's initiative when opening  National Children's Day on July 23, 2006 at Cipanas Flower Park, West Java.

President Yudhoyono was of the opinion that such a contest for elementary and secondary school students was intended to instill national character in the students.

According to Jero Wacik, the contest was the right media for the students to competitively increase their artistic creativity and  develop their character.(*)
