Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesian Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sharif Cicip Sutardjo said a number of foreign investors have expressed keen interest in developing the country's small islands.

"Several investors have shown seriousness in developing the islands offered by the government," he said in a press statement released on Saturday.

The small islands are located among others in the provinces of Riau Islands, Papua and West Nusa Tenggara, he said.

The investors who come from Singapore, Maldives and Middle Eastern countries are interested in the government's program to develop the small islands, he said.

"They are still studying their investment plans. Therefore, we will encourage them to realize their investment plans as quickly as possible.

The investors are interested in developing Anambas island in   Riau Islands, Raja Ampat island in Papua and a number of islands in West Nusa Tenggara, he said. (*/DWA)
