Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The National Police said as many as 212 prisoners including several terrorist convicts have escaped from Tanjung Gusta penitentiary in Medan, North Sumatera, due to the riot on Thursday (July 11).
"The head of Tanjung Gusta penitentiary and team have collected data, and the number of prisoners in the penitentiary has been recorded 2.599 people, then at the muster totaled 2.384 people, and after riot prisoners who fled as many as 212 people," National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar said here on Saturday.
Boy said three prisoners were killed due to a fire that devastated the penitentiary on Thursday evening. The official, previously, also reported two prison guards were found dead.
The bodies of the dead victims have been sent to the state hospital of Pringadi in Medan.
Boy further said as many as 81 prisoners have been recaptured until Friday night at 09.00 p.m Western Indonesia Time. (IGT)
