Manado (Antara Bali) - Six subdistricts in Manado, North Sulawesi were inundated following incessant rains that have fallen since Saturday night until Sunday morning in the region.

"The water level in Singkil, Paal Dua, Sario, Tuminting, Malalayang, and Wenang Subdistrict reaches a height of around 60-70cm," Head of Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Manado Maximillian Tatahede said here.

The flood had inundated houses in the subdistricts forcing local residents to evacuate themselves to safer places.

"Most of them are taking refuge in mosques and churches as they are located on higher ground," Tatahede said.

The BPBD is on alert and cooperating with the Social Services Office, The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), amateur radio community, Health Department, and Public Work Office to mitigate the disaster. (IGT)
