"The biggest hike has been recorded in North and West Jakarta," he said after accompanying Jakarta governor Joko Widodo inspecting a river in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Sunday.
Production of garbage usually fluctuates between 5,300 and 6,300 tons a day and so more trucks are needed to take the garbage that has piled up after the floods, he said.
Unu said the city provincial administration only has as many as 523 trucks and so it would lease heavy dump trucks to collect it.
"We predict each area (east, west, north and south Jakarta) would need 50 heavy trucks to carry the garbage," he said adding he hoped residents would help workers in the effort. (IGT/T007)
