Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The former president director of PT PLN (Persero), Dahlan Iskan, said that the inefficiency of PT PLN, which had resulted in the loss of Rp37.6 trillion, was caused by gas unavailability. Hence, state-owned companies were forced to switch to diesel fuel, which is more expensive than gas.
"The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) said that the inefficiency was not caused by corruption but the low availability of gas, forcing the PLN to use diesel fuel," Dahlan said when he attended the hearing of the Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Tuesday.
Dahlan added that the PLN's gas requirements in the eight power plants were not fulfilled, forcing the company to use fuel oil (BBM). If the PLN did not switch to fuel oil, most of the people in Jakarta would have experienced blackout.
In the report, BPK No.30/Auditama VII/ PDTT/09/2011 September 16 2011, BPK realised that state losses in the eight power plants between 2009 and 2011 were worth Rp 37.6 trillion. These losses were due to the usage of fuel oil in PLN's power plants instead of gas.
Dahlan arrived at 9.55 am to meet the Commission VII, after his absence on two occasions previously.(*/DWA)
