Speaking at the second meeting of the Coordinating Committee of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) in Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday, Marty underscored the need to eliminate the roots of terrorism and "conditions conducive to terrorism".
"This must be the focus of GCTF's work plan," the minister said in a press statement released on Friday.
Marty, who attended the forum at the invitation of the Turkish foreign minister and the US Secretary of State, noted cooperation at national, regional and global levels was necessary to deal with the threat of terrorism. "GCTF must serve as a forum capable of uniting all efforts at national, regional and global levels," he said.
"One of the efforts involves adopting global measures to address poverty, injustice and other social problems at a global level. Remaining calm and having the right perspective is the smartest way to address terrorism, radicalism and extremism," Marty added.(IGT)
