Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The Denpasar district court on Thursday sentenced former US serviceman Michael Sean Pugh (45) to five months in jail for possessing 7.27 grams of hashish.
"The defendant has legally and convincingly proven guilty of abusing narcotics pursuant to article 127 para 1 of the Indonesian Law No. 35/2009 on narcotics," judge Gunawan Tri Budiono who presided over a panel of judges at the court said.
Budiono said the 45-year-old American was sentenced to five months in jail minus detention period.
The sentence was two months lower than public prosecutor Rindayani had earlier sought.
Both the defendant and public prosecutor accepted the court verdict. Michael said he would serve out his jail term.
Micheal was arrested on August 2, 2011 at Canggu Permai housing complex on Jl Krisnatara 99X, Kuta Utara, Bali, after the local police received tip-offs from the public.
The police later searched Michael's house and found 7.27 grams of hashish wrapped up in a plastic bag.
During the search, the police also found a mixture of hashish seed, stalk, and leaves weighing a total of 5.82 gram hidden in a cupboard.(T007)
