Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Umar Patek, the terror suspect arrested in Pakistan some time ago, was made to reenact what he did just before and during the 2002 Bali bombings at five locations here on Thursday morning.
For the reenactment, the police had brought in five of Umar's former comrades, namely Ali Imron, Abdul Ghoni, Mubarok, Sawad and Idris. The five are currently serving life-long sentences.
The reconstruction process began in a house at Menjangan street, Denpasar. The house was used by Umar and the five to assemble bombs and store explosives.
From Menjangan street, the terror group was taken to the Consulate General of the United States at Hayam Wuruk street in the provincial capital of Bali.
At that location Ali Imron showed how he arrived there driving a Mitsubishi Colt L300 pick-up transporting bombs before he handed the wheel to one of his associates.
The third location was Terminal Ubung, Denpasar. At this location, Idris and Sawad demonstrated the way in which they picked up Umar after his arrival in Bali. Then, they took Umar Patek to a house on Gatot Subroto street, the fourth location.
The fifth location was the Sari Club cafe on Jalan Legian, Kuta, Badung district where the bombs exploded and which is now the Ground Zero Monument.
The reconstruction process attracted many members of the local communities and road traffic around the locations were diverted to avoid congestion.(**)
