Jakarta (Antaranews Bali) - Major General Djoko Setiadi, chief of the
National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN), has revealed that his
office will use the latest sophisticated technology in counterterrorism
to assist the National Police.
"We will help the National Police Headquarters in counterterrorism.
Of course, there will be sharing (of information), and we will also use
the latest technology to detect (and) locate. We will share whatever we
find with the authorities, in this case the Police," he stated, after
being sworn in as BSSN`s chief by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the
State Palace, here on Wednesday.
He noted that terrorism has penetrated the cyber world through the
communication system, which is good and difficult to penetrate.
"We have prepared everything. If there is a cyber attack anywhere, we must face it using technology," he added.
The agency will also detect and monitor hoaxes that could affect the national unity.
He remarked that the new agency is a revitalization of the State
Encryption Institute (Lemsaneg) that he had headed previously.
"(According to) the president`s directives, we must also be able to
prioritize the protection of Indonesian citizens," he added.
"The BSSN will be directed towards the development of ecosystem of
Indonesian cyber world, which is safe and resilient," he explained.
Earlier, Setiadi, the former chief of the State Code Agency, was
sworn in by the president in the presence of Vice President Jusuf Kalla,
several cabinet ministers, and some high-ranking government officials.
Also present on the occasion were Chief of the People`s
Consultative Assembly Zulkifli Hasan; Deputy Chief of the Constitutional
Court Anwar Usman; Governor of Bank Indonesia, the central bank, Agus
Martowardojo; Military Chief Hadi Tjahjanto; Coordinating Minister for
Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto; Cabinet Secretary
Pramono Anung; and Chief of the Presidential Staff Teten Masduki. (WDY)
