Nusa
Dua (Antara Bali) - Developing countries can achieve
sustainable development depending on the policy makers and their
political direction, Heri Gunawan, a member of the House of
Representatives, stated.
"All developing countries can realize sustainable development. To
make this a reality, the government must take real steps for Indonesia`s
development," Gunawan noted on the sidelines of the "World Parliament
Forum on Sustainable Development" meeting in Nusa Dua, Bali, on
Thursday.
He expressed hope that the World Parliament Forum on Sustainable
Development would help to boost prosperity, narrow the gap, and
alleviate poverty.
The World Parliament Forum, being held in Bali, is the aspiration
of every country having diverse characteristics and keen on achieving a
goal related to sustainable development, Gunawan remarked.
It was said that the World Parliament meeting, themed "Achieving
the 2030 Agenda through Inclusive Development," is so precise that
developing countries keen to get ahead must discuss and think from now
on.
"Here, of course, not only physical but also human development is
needed to realize sustainable development," he emphasized.
The two-day meeting of the World Parliamentary Forum was attended
by 285 delegates from 48 parliaments of various countries, including
Bhutan, Chile, Fiji, Ghana, India, Zimbabwe, Canada, Ecuador, Iran,
Jordan, Mexico, Portugal, Qatar, South Korea, and Turkey, including 19
observers from the ASEAN Inter Parliamentary Assembly, United Nations
Development Programme, European Union, and Migrant Care, among others. (WDY)
