Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla hopes for the Bridges: Dialogue Towards a Culture of Peace event to become a platform for ideas and perspectives exchange between the East and the West.
"Through this event, we want a dialogue between the East and the West to occur, as almost all of the speakers will come from developed countries," said Vice President Kalla in the press conference for the Bridges Dialogue in Dharmawangsa Hotel, South Jakarta, Wednesday.
The Vice President will act as honorary chairman for the international event in Indonesia, in which winners of Peace, Physics, Chemistry and Medical Nobel Prize will give public lectures and conduct dialogues with students from local schools and universities.
"Secondly, this Dialogue will surely draw a new horizon in technology and science for lecturers and students from local universities who will organize the event," he remarked.
He believes that a country need new perspectives in order to catch up in the science and technology field.
Vice President Kalla also thinks that the Bridges Dialogue, initiated in Vienna, Austria, can be the platform for idea exchange in pursuing world peace amid the conflicts and recession faced by the global community.
"We can learn from each other in Indonesia as we have achieved much more peace here compared to other countries," he reiterated.
