Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU), Husni Kamila Malik, passed away at Pertamina Central Hospital in South Jakarta where he was being treated for an infection that had spread to various organs.
KPU Commissioner Hadar Nafis Gumay told Antara here on Thursday evening that there were no signs so far of Husni suffering from any other illnesses or deteriorating health.
"Our friends and I had never seen him sick and knew he was undergoing health message therapy. An infection spread through his body. I do not know all the facts yet as I have not met his family," he said.
Husni was admitted to RSP Pertamina on Thursday morning and was pronounced dead by doctors at 21.10pm. He is survived by his wife and three children.
He was born in Medan, North Sumatra, on July 18, 1975 and was a member of KPU West Sumatra from 2003-2008 and 2008-2013.
He had been active in various political activities and had been active as an election monitor since his days as a student at the Andalas University. (WDY)
