Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) has encouraged the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR) to carry out a limited amendment to the 1945 Constitution to restore its authority to endorse state policies.

"One of the recommendations of the first national working meeting is that the PDIP faction in the MPR should encourage a limited amendment to the 1945 Constitution," PDIP Chief Megawati Soekarnoputri said in her address at the meeting at JEXpo building in Kemayoran, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

She said the limited amendment to the 1945 Constitution should focus on strengthening the MPRs authority by adding and amending several articles related to the authority to endorse state policies.

If the amendment to the 1945 Constitution is not limited, it will be biased and will not be effective, she said.

"The limited amendment is merely aimed at restoring the MPRs authority to endorse state policies so that it can again function as the supreme state institution," she said.

She also called on all elements of the nation to introspect and look at the current administrative condition.

The public expected Indonesia to become a developed nation with sustainable and well-guided development.

But the fact is that national development based on five-yearly vision and mission is now stagnant, she said.(WDY)
