Jakarta (Antara Bali) - President Joko Widodo has established the National Committee of the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security (CTI-CFF) as outlined in the Presidential Decree No. 85/2015.

The decision was cited quoting the Secretariat of the Cabinet page on Thursday.

The Committee will coordinate work among the ministries and other institutions in implementing various programs and activities of the CTI-CFF.

 The CTI-CFF National Committee of Indonesia, based in the state capital, Jakarta,  is subordinate and accountable to the President, and is headed by a chairman.

The National Committee of CTI-CFF Indonesia is preparing a policy for protection and management of coral reefs, fisheries, and national food security as the basis of and to give direction for development of reef resources, fisheries and national food security.

The committee also provides guidance in the planning and implementation of CTI-CFF program at regional, national and local levels.

The committee will establish working mechanisms among stakeholders in the management of coral reefs, fisheries and food security, and will implement the regional agreements of  CTI-CFF at the national level, and develop national action plans of the CTI-CFF.

The CTI-CFF National Committee of Indonesia is chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime, and comprises the Head of the National Development Planning Agency, the Minister of Interior, the Minister of Environment and Forestry, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education and the Head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences.

The Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security (CTI-CFF) is a multilateral partnership among six countries working together to sustain extraordinary marine and coastal resources by addressing crucial issues such as food security, climate change and marine biodiversity.

The CTI-CFF consisted of six countries, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands and Timor Leste. (WDY)
