Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Vietnam has agreed to join the International Tripartite Rubber Commission (ITRC), which groups the world's three largest producers of natural rubber.
A news release issued by the government on Sunday said that Vietnamese Minister for Agriculture and forestry Cao Duc Phat agreed to a proposal of Indonesian Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman for Vietnam to join ITRC.
ITRC which was established in December, 2001 by Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, accounts for around 67 percent of the global production and 79 percent of world exports of natural rubber.
ITRC is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the implementation of the natural rubber supply measures,including Supply Management Scheme (SMS) and the Agreed export Tonnage Scheme (AETS).
The news release also said Vietnam agreed to cooperate with Indonesia to seek to expand the market of natural rubber and coffee. Vietnam and Indonesia are the world's largest and second largest producers of robusta coffee .
The agriculture ministers of the two countries also agreed to jointly promote other farm products in the global market. (WDY)
