Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Bali will prepare 1,000 hectares of land for developing corn plantation under an integrated plant management program for increasing food production, a local official said here Thursday.

"The Ministry of Agriculture has allocated funds for the corn plantation development project," the Head of Agriculture Office in Bali province, Ida Bagus Wisnuardhana, said.

He explained that the fund will be utilized for the distribution of seeds and fertilizers, maintenance of the plantation, and several other needs of farmers for managing the agriculture land.

The project is expected to help Bali realize its food self-sufficiency program, especially for corn, in 2015.

In addition to developing 1,000 hectares for corn plantation, Bali will also cultivate soybean on 200 hectares, paddy on 750 hectares, and repair many irrigation channels at the tertiary level, Wisnuardhana stated.

Data obtained from Bali's Central Bureau of Statistics shows Bali produced 40,613 tons of corn in 2014. (WDY)
