London (Antara Bali) - The Serbian government recently awarded Indonesian Ambassador to Serbia Samuel Samson with the "Order of the Serbian Flag of the Second Degree" for boosting bilateral ties between the two nations, stated the Indonesian Embassy.

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic gave the medal of honor at his presidential office, the Indonesian embassy noted in a press statement made available to Antara London here on Tuesday.

The medal is the highest honor bestowed on figures from Serbia's partner countries for their contribution in developing and strengthening bilateral relations with Serbia in social, cultural, political, economic, educational, sports, and defense fields, Serbian President's adviser Oliver Antic remarked.

Ambassador Samson supports the highest level of political dialogue, which is in accordance with Indonesia's political stance on the Kosovo and Metohija issues, he emphasized.

The Order of the Serbian Flag of the Second Degree was given to the Indonesian ambassador to Serbia for the first time in the history of both countries' diplomatic relations.

During his speech, Ambassador Samuel Samson stated that the award was not only the result of his own hard work but also the efforts put in by all the embassy staff and other stakeholders of Serbia's and Indonesia's relations, including government officials, members of parliament, religious figures, academicians, media people, and entrepreneurs.

The Order of the Serbian Flag of the Second Degree holds significance as it marks the 60 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Serbia, which formally began on November 4, 1954, he noted. (WDY)
