Denpasar (Antara Bali) -- The Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) of Bali are prepared for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015, with improved medical services for communities.

"Physicians should be closer with their patients," Chairperson of IDI Bali, Dr. Kompyang Gautama, said here on Saturday.

"Especially with the upcoming AEC 2015, physicians and all professionals should communicate effectively with their patients and clients, respectively," he added.

Dr. Gautama further noted that government support was also needed to improve the ability and competency of Indonesian physicians.

"We are ready to welcome foreign physicians and medical staff to work with us here," the doctor said, adding that improving medical competencies and communicating effectively were two of the many ways they were preparing for the AEC 2015.

According to Gautama, there was no way to prevent the foreign experts from working in Indonesia as it was part of the implementation of the AEC 2015.

In keeping with this, IDI Bali is striving to improve its members and prioritize their main tasks, adhering to a medical code of ethics.

Being a physician is not a simple task. A physician should not only be medically capable, but should also have an understanding of ethics, the doctor stated.  (WDY)
