Pariaman (Antara Bali) - West Sumatra city of Pariaman's Disaster Mitigation Board (BPBD) will install five units of the tsunami early warning sirens along the coastal areas of the city, an official said.
Three units of the tsunami early warning sirens will be installed at mosques and the other two at the public health centers, head of the disaster preparedness affairs of the local BPBD, Dirmayanto said here on Saturday.
"The tsunami early warning sirens will be installed in the near future namely at Pasir Sunur mosque in South Pariaman subdistrict, the Nurul Bahari Gandoriah Beach mosque in Central pariaman subdistrict, and Manggung Grand Mosque, in North Pariaman Subdistrict, he said.
Meanwhile, the rest of tsunami early warning sirens will be placed at public health centers or Puskesmas in Pauh (Central Pariaman subdistrict) and Nareh public health center.
According to him, Pariaman at least needs 25 units of the tsunami early warning sirens.
All the sirens have been equipped with solar panels, so they do not depend on the state-owned electricity company (PLN). (*/DWA)
