Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian government has decided to list official trips separately from goods and services in the state's account books, in an effort to tackle corruption in state-owned enterprises and better manage the nation's finances.

"We have informed the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) that spending on official trips will be separately listed from expenditure on goods and services in the state's ledger," Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo said here on Friday.

He stated that he would inform all the ministries and national institutions about the government's decision "in order to avoid future misunderstanding on the issue".

"All state institutions as well as the public have to know about this policy. It will ensure that official trips are transparent in terms of spending, which is widely thought to be a burden on the state budget," Agus explained.

"The public must know how much is being spent on official trips, whether it be within the country or overseas," he added.(*/M038/T007)
