Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The car sales in Indonesia in the first quarter of 2012 increased 10.6 percent to 249,589 units from that in the same period a year earlier which stood at 225,739 units, an automotive industry executive said.
Chief of the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) Johny Darmawan said on Sunday car sales in January 2012 reached 76,000 units.
The sales increased further in the following two months to around 84,000 units in February and to 85,000 units in March.
"We predicts car sales in the next months will be around 80,000s," he said adding that Gaikindo has projected car sales would reach 950,000 units at the end of the year," he said.
Looking at the positive development in the market, the CEO of PT Toyota Astra Motor said Toyota would maintain its sales target to dominate 36 percent of the car sales market in Indonesia in 2012.(IGT/T007)
