Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, on behalf of President Joko Widodo, departed for Tokyo on Monday to be present for Naruhito's coronation ceremony as emperor of Japan on Tuesday.
The vice president and his entourage departed from the Halim Perdanakusuma Airbase in Jakarta at 10 a.m. local time aboard Presidential Plane BBJ Indonesia 1. He is scheduled to arrive at the Narita International Airport in Japan at 7:30 p.m. local time.
Amin and his entourage, including Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and Chief of the Vice Presidential Secretariat Mohamad Oemar, will fly back to Jakarta on Tuesday after the coronation ceremony.
Amin’s visit to Japan is his first overseas trip since his inauguration as vice president for the 2019-2024 period on Sunday.
Naruhito acceded to the Chrysanthemum Throne on May 1, 2019, starting the Reiwa era, following the abdication of his father, Emperor Akihito. According to Japan's traditional order of succession, he is the 126th monarch.
