Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian police have prepared 75
thousand personnel to secure the elections of district heads and
provincial governors in 101 regions in the country on Feb 15.
"We have made ready 75 thousand personnel for the security of the elections," head of public information of the Indonesia Police, Senior Commissioner Martinus Sitompul, said here on Wednesday.
He said the police personnel would be deployed at a number of polling stations three days before the vote.
"They will be deployed at the polling stations two or three days at the latest before the elections," he added.
He noted that the police planned to carry out extra security measures in a number of regions considered vulnerable to conflicts such as in Jakarta, Aceh and Papua.
"Previously, Jakarta was not included, but due to recent social and political developments, we decided to categorize this region as vulnerable too," he remarked.
The police would deploy additional forces from various regional police commands to the three regions, he stated.
The campaign period is to end of Feb 11, followed by a cooling-down period from Feb 12 to 14 ahead of the elections on Feb 15.(WDY)
