Jakarta (Antara Bali) - National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian has ordered his staff to continue investigating terrorist networks to maintain public safety and security.
The Indonesian Police's antiterrorist unit, Densus 88, arrested four suspected terrorists and killed three others during anti-terrorism operations in South Tangerang on Wednesday.
Also on Wednesday, Densus 88 arrested suspected terrorists in Batam, Riau Islands Province; Deli Serdang, North Sumatra; and in Payakumbuh, West Sumatra.
"We will continue to arrest terrorist suspects. We will not stop doing so. I have ordered the police to continue the investigation up to the smallest cells," Karnavian remarked on Wednesday night.
Densus 88 in 2016 arrested some 40 terrorist suspects, and the National Police chief expressed hope that this would have a deterrent effect on other terrorists and those who intend to join terrorist groups.
Karnavian said the police will work hard to secure the country and avoid situations that could disturb the peace and order during celebrations of Christmas and New Year. (WDY)
