Beijing (Antara Bali) - Tri Mawarti (36), an Indonesian woman in Hong Kong, tested positive for the H7N9 bird flu virus, according to Chalief Akbar, Indonesian consul in Hong Kong.
Chalief had informed Antara here on Tuesday that the Indonesian woman who worked as a housemaid was in critical condition at Queen Mary Hospital, suffering from high fever since November 27, 2013.
Chalief said Tri had a high fever when she returned from Shenzhen, where she had been to the market to buy chicken.
She visited Tuen Mun Hospital on November 27 to check the fever, and she tested positive for H7N9 virus. However, when her condition worsened on November 30, she was transferred to Queen Mary Hospital.
Chalief noted that the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong, while continuing to monitor the progress of the case and seek assistance if required, will also bring Tri's family members to Hong Kong, if possible.
He explained that the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong would cooperate with the State's Food and Environmental Hygiene Department to spread all avian-influenza-related information, including preventive measures, to all Indonesian nationals there.
According to the Secretary for Food and Health, Ko Wing-man, the H7N9 influenza case of the Indonesian citizen in Hong Kong was the first to attack humans. (*/DWA)
