Yogyakarta (Antara Bali) - The ministry of agriculture has admitted that it is mass-producing a H5N1 Clade 2.3.2 avian flu vaccine at Farma Veterinary Center in Surabaya, East Java.
"The H5N1 Clade 2.3.2 vaccine is being produced at Farma Veterinary Center. They are working 24-hour non-stop and have set a target of producing two million vaccine for distribution to prioritized regions," deputy agriculture minister Rusman Heriawan said here on Monday.
He said the H5N1 avian flu virus was first discovered by the Veterinary Center in Wates, Kulon Progo.
The H5NI AI virus is a new gene which is different from H5NI Clade 2.1.3 that attacks poultry, he explained.
"The discovery of the H5N1 AI virus Clade 2.3.2 could not be separated from the good cooperation and coordination between laboratories and the ministry of agriculture," he said.
The deputy minister said some 200,000 ducks have been killed by the H5N1 AI or 0.45 percent of a total of 47 million ducks. (IGT/T007)
