Ambon (Antara Bali) - An earthquake measuring5.8 on the Richter scale jolted West Southeast Maluku (MTB) district in Maluku province at 7.25 Eastern Indonesia Standard Time on Wednesday.
Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said the epicenter of the earthquake was located at 6.91 degrees southern latitude and 131.52 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 75 km under the sea.
Maluku Regional Disaster Mitigation Board spokesman Kifly Wakanno said the there was no report of casualties and material damages from the earthquake.
The province of Maluku is prone to tectonic earthquake and tsunami because it is situated at the meeting point of three giant plates namely the Pacific, Indo-Australia, and Eurasia. (IGT)
