Ambon (Antara Bali) - A tectonic earthquake measuring 5.17 on the Richter scale jolted the city of Tual in Southeast Maluku district, Maluku province early Saturday morning.
According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, the epicenter of the earthquake was located at 2.78 degrees southern latitude and 130.26 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 10 km under the sea, or some 122 km southwest of Tual.
Meanwhile, Maluku Regional Disaster Mitigation Board spokesman Kifly Wakanno said there was no report of casualties and material damages from the earthquake.
"Report from disaster mitigation agency in Tual said there was no report of material damage and casualties," Kifli said.
The province of Maluku is prone to tectonic earthquake and tsunami because it is situated at the meeting point of three giant plates namely the Pacific, Indo-Australia, and Eurasia. (*/DWA/T007)
