Atambua (Antara Bali) - More than 1790 Christian prisoners in the East Nusatenggara province will receive Christmas remission on Tuesday.
They are among inmates of 16 prisons in a number of cities in the Christian dominated province.
"There are 2,086 Christian prisoners in East Nusa Tenggara and 1,793 of them are given remission including 26 set free," spokeswoman of the NTT justice and human rights office Yustina Lema said here on Monday.
Only Christians will receive Christmas remission ranging from 1.5 to 2 months, Yustina said.
Most of the prisoners receiving remissions were involved in general crimes like murder, and torture, she said, adding corruption prisoners are not given remission. (IGT/T007)
