Soybean Price Continues To Soar In Denpasar

Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The price of imported soybean at traditional markets here has risen up to Rp9,000 per kilogramme ahead of Id-ul-Fitr.

"The price rise is due to drought conditions in the United States, from where the commodity is imported, and it has affected soybean supply in Denpasar," said Ni Made Suri, one of the retailers, here on Tuesday.

"Although retailers have enough supply of soybean to meet consumers' demand, they have increased the price from Rp1,000 to Rp9,000 per kg this week," she added.

Made Suri stated that Denpasar had adequate supply of high-quality soybean, which came mainly from distributors in Surabaya, East Java.

Besides, soybean demand in Bali is not as high as that of other regions during the holy fasting month of Ramadan.(IGT/T007)
