Ministry Plans To Revitalize Traditional Markets In Border Regions

Jakarta (Antara Bali)- The cooperavits and SMEs Ministry plans to revitalize traditional markets and facilitate street vendors in outermost and least developed regions.

The government is committed to empowering cooperatives and small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in least developed and outer most regions in 2015, Cooperatives and SMEs Minister AAGN Puspayoga said here Tuesday.

The revitalization program of traditional markets in remote areas is part of the national development program, the minister said.

The ministry also plans to revitalize traditional markets in disaster-hit regions.

The capacity of human resources engaged in cooperatives and SMEs will also be improved by giving them training courses in job skills.

"We are also trying to facilitate informal micro-scale vendors or street vendors by improving their location and business facilities, and to intensify marketing promotion in outer most, least developed and border regions," the minister noted.

For that purpose, the ministry has stepped up coordination between the central and regional governments in drafting policy program and activities aimed at empowering cooperatives and SMEs in outer most regions and least developed regions.

The minister sees important to strengthen the government's policies and to accelerate the development in least developed regions.

Activities that are pro border and outer most regions are crucial to help boost the development in those regions, he added. (WDY)
