Sumenep (Antara Bali) - Sumenep local police have successfully evacuated 58 illegal immigrants who were stranded on Guagua Island.
"Based on information, the boat has left Guagua Island at around 06.00 am, said local police spokesperson Commissioner Edi Purwanto here Sunday.
As earlier reported that on Thursday, July 26, as many as 58 illegal immigrants were found stranded on Guagua Island after their boat was damaged on the way to Australia.
Bad weather condition hampered the evacuation effort made earlier by the local policemen.
"The evacuation of immigrants cannot be sent directly to Surabaya, East Java's provincial capital, but they will be transiting at Kalianget at Sumenep," he said.
In a normal condition, the boat should have arrived in Kalianget by 12.00 pm, he added.(IGT)
