Semarang (Antara Bali) - Transportation Minister EE Mangidaan has called on holidaymakers to travel by ship instead of motorcycle during the Lebaran holiday.
"In order to reduce traffic congestion, the government will provide the KRI Banda Aceh warship and other ships from the national shipping company, Pelni, free of cost to holiday travellers," he said here on Friday.
Minister Mangindaan made the announcement after reviewing the preparations at Tanjung Emas port here for this year's Lebaran holiday exodus.
"The preparations have been made, but motorbikers have been requested to use the ships made available for their return trip during the Lebaran holiday this year," he said.
"It is much better for the travellers to take ships instead of motorbikes, because ships are safer and more comfortable," Mangindaan added.(IGT)
